Bruce is named Summer 2005 MVB
In a tight vote, Bruce “Boss” Boess picks up the Summer 2005 Most Valuable Bear (MVB) award. Bruce spent the season sitting comfortably in the number 3 spot in the order and boy did he deliver. Bruce picked up his third batting title hitting a robust .684 raising his career average to .626. He was second on the club with a 1.132 slugging, thanks in large part to his 43 total bases. Batting in front of the Bear’s version of “Murderer’s Row” (Bruce, Jason, Sholom, Steve), Bruce drove in 14 and scored 17 times. Defensively, Bruce saw almost exclusive time at shortstop as was as solid in the position as any other Bear shortstop. This is Bruce’s second MVB award.
Other Bears who were in the running for Bear of the season included: Jason “Smokey” Gentry, Sholom “Pops” West, Steve “Jr” Chadwick and Chris “Pierce” Lyles.
